Keith in his chair. 4 Astrology How and Why it works.
This will not be a post aimed at teaching you astrology, there are many resources out there to do that. No this is a post to address some issues people have with astrology and to offer an explanation as to not only how it works but perhaps more importantly why it works.
When I started to think about the content of this post I was initially concerned that I would have to lay a lot of ground work first so that some of you would be able to grasp the concepts involved, but I dismissed that because I do not know where you are starting from and if there is cause for further study or contemplation then that is a good thing and you do not have to be bored by stuff you already know and anyway most of it will be pitched at an intuitive level, So just let it sink in and see on an intuitive level you feel okay with it.
There are several issues raised by academics and others that result in a consensus that astrology is nothing but ancient superstition and I do understand that view. When I started with astrology my main concern was does it work, the ideas of how it worked was not particularly relevant because I knew, after using it that it did work, given it had to be said a few instances which I put down to the astrologer not astrology. I worked for many years like this until my search for truth in other areas caused me to question just what was going on. I had studied science so I knew the rational arguments against it but as my spiritual understanding grew I started to think of astrology in a more profound sense. So yes, it started with what is known as spiritual astrology, trying to figure out the role of the Soul in our lives and I found some good results in putting a more spiritual slant on the nature of signs and planets as well as some fruitful work with the Arabic Parts.
However, how could a lump or rock floating in space cause me to change my psychological, spiritual and even physical well-being. Well it came down to considering what is the fundamental nature of the universe. And that to me is consciousness, just consciousness, many people feel that the Earth itself is a living conscious being. So why not all the other planets. Now I am not trying to tell you that the Earth is a living being and any moment now it is going to stand up and tell a joke.
The conscious universe is a living universe that encapsulates every thing there is, tangible and intangible and it has to be said that there is more intangible stuff than tangible stuff a bit like matter, dark-matter and energy, dark-energy. We could say the consciousness of matter but that is very misleading. Planets, you, me are the matter of consciousness, and of course it is the consciousness that matters.
So it is the consciousness of the planets which astrology deals with not the matter of the planets. This does away with the argument about the planets being to far away to have any effect on us because the whole universe is consciousness and therefore everywhere. The planets, that is the physical manifestation of the particular consciousness are indications of what that particular consciousness is up to and how is it interacting with our own consciousness and then to the actions of the matter associated with our consciousness, ie our bodies, tissues, organs and brains.
I know that is a lot to take in so do not worry if you are feeling a little confused right now, but there are parts of you which will figure it out.
Now if we are consciousness and planets are consciousness it stands to reason that any interaction will be a two way thing. So instead of think that well, people have free will and can decide how that interaction plays out and therefore the sometimes ambiguity in astrological prognosis, I would say that the planetary consciousness has a role to play in how the interaction plays out based on the best interests of the individual's life which of course can be modified by the individual's free will and choices.
Which means then that the why astrology works question is answer by the term 'in our own best interest', or that the planetary consciousness is acting as guide and mentor for all mankind and life on the planet. The Planets and the whole of the universe is working to bring about a better more harmonised consciousness of which we are a part.
